The Lead Miner + Mention Finder Playbook: Find Your First 10 Customers on Reddit

A repeatable weekly routine: which keywords to mine, how to prioritize opportunity posts, and the mention-reply formula that gets upvoted instead of reported.

Why most "Reddit marketing" fails

People treat Reddit like a billboard: drop a link, disappear, wonder why it got removed. The posts that actually convert are replies written within hours of someone asking for help — helpful first, linked second, sometimes not linked at all.

The hard part was never writing the reply. It was being there when the question got asked. That's a scanning problem, and scanning is what RedditPro does while you sleep.

The two scanners, and when to use each

RedditPro has two complementary discovery engines. Knowing which one to aim where is 80% of this playbook:

  • Lead Miner scans subreddits for questions and pain points in your niche — people who don't know your product exists but describe the problem it solves. Use it for demand discovery and first-contact.
  • Mention Finder watches Reddit for your brand, your domain and your pages — people already discussing you. Use it for conversion, support and reputation.

Leads are cold conversations waiting to start. Mentions are warm ones already happening without you.

Step 1 — Aim Lead Miner at problems, not products

The classic beginner mistake is mining your own category name. Nobody types "best CRM" into a post at 2am — they type "I'm losing track of which clients have paid me and it's a nightmare". Build your keyword list from symptoms:

  • Pain phrases: "waste hours", "manually", "keep forgetting", "is there a tool"
  • Buying language: "recommend", "alternative to", "worth paying for"
  • Your competitors' names — people asking for alternatives are the hottest leads on the platform

Add 5–10 phrases to your daily scan. The Miner scores every post, and theOpportunity badge marks the ones with high comment counts and open questions — threads where a good answer gets seen by hundreds of lurkers, not just the OP.

Step 2 — Set up Mention Finder once, benefit forever

Mention Finder needs one setup: give it your website URL. It crawls your sitemap, builds a list of every page and tool name, then searches Reddit for each one every hour. New mentions land in an inbox with status badges (new → drafted → replied).

Three settings that matter:

  • Filter by path — a big site? Limit the crawl to /tools or /blog so the scan stays focused.
  • Toggle pages off — your legal pages and changelog aren't worth scanning. Keep product pages on.
  • Scan now after setup so you see current mentions immediately instead of waiting for the next hourly pass.

Step 3 — The reply formula that doesn't get reported

When you open a mention or a lead, the AI drafts a starting reply — but the structure is what matters. Every non-spammy promo reply ever upvoted on Reddit follows this shape:

  1. Answer the actual question first. Genuinely, completely, with no link. If your answer is good, the thread is already a win.
  2. Disclose in one clause. "I built a tool for exactly this" reads honest; pretending to be a happy stranger reads like astroturf and gets you banned.
  3. Link once, to the most specific page. A deep link to the exact tool beats a homepage link — it shows you read the question.
  4. Stop writing. No P.S., no second link, no "feel free to DM". One link per reply, forever.
Reality check: expect roughly 1 in 10 good replies to convert to a visit, and 1 in a few visits to convert to a customer — but each thread keeps ranking on Google for years. A helpful answer in the right thread is an asset, not a one-shot.

Step 4 — The weekly routine (30 minutes)

Here's the whole system as a Monday-morning habit. Set a calendar block; the suite does the rest:

  • Monday: open Lead Miner, review the week's opportunity posts, send 5 replies (daily stealth limits keep this spread across the week).
  • Daily, 5 minutes: clear the Mention Finder inbox — reply, or dismiss junk. Draft with AI, edit by hand, send.
  • Wednesday: schedule one genuinely valuable post (guide, dataset, honest story) in your best subreddit via Posts → Scheduling.
  • Friday: check Dashboard — account health, promo ratios, karma trend. If a subreddit's ratio crept over its ceiling, go link-free there next week.

Step 5 — Compounding: favorites, groups and tracked replies

As results come in, the suite helps you compound them:

  • Favorites & Groups — save subreddits that produced leads into colored groups (e.g. "SaaS buyers", "coupon hunters") so future searches start where wins happened.
  • Reply Tracker — every comment you send via the suite is watched; when someone answers two days later, you get a notification instead of missing the follow-up.
  • Karma snapshots — the daily dashboard history shows whether your account's standing is rising, which is the best early-warning signal before any moderator drama.

First 10 customers rarely come from one viral post. They come from 50 small, timely, honest replies — and a system that never lets a question go unanswered.
